For a number of years there has been preaching near this point, and at one the members here were organized as a church known as the Farnhamville church, but as there was no house of worship, and much of the time no resident minister, the cause suffered and the church here was financially disorganized.

The Mission Board of Northern Iowa looked after the work and arranged with Bro. A. B. Woodard to do some preaching for them. A series of meetings was held last summer by Bro. Zimmerman, of Waterloo, Iowa. The write came up last March to fill the appointment for Bro. Woodard, and was much pleased to meet an appreciative congregation, and one hungry for Gospel. Becoming interested in the place as a promising field, and one demanding work, I made them a proposition that if they would interest a man to build a house for me to rent, at this little station, and would build a churchhouse, I would move up and help them to carry on the work.   I have interested my brother, J. N. Goughnour, of Chicago, in the purchases of a stock and goods here and also have a promise of a young sister to teach the school here, and help in the church work.

While we have not money enough yet subscribed to complete the building, we have enough that we, with the Mission Board, have decided to go ahead with the building, and expect to commence in a few days on the foundation and basement.  We want to complete it by Sept. 1.

Any young sister able to teach school and having an aspiration to carry on mission work, can do both here. Any one expecting to make a change of location, and wanting to be in a good farming country, where he can do service for the cause of Christ, would do well to investigate here. Any information wanted will be cheerfully given by the writer.  Jas. Q. Goughnour. Slifer, Iowa, R. D. Gowrie.
