Our Visit to Somerset Co.

Having previously promised the brethren at Meyersdale to attend their communion meeting this fall, we left home on the morning of the 21st, of Sept., to fulfill our engagement, the meeting being appointed on the 22d. the congregation holding this meeting, has heretofore been called the Elk Lick congregation. It be came large in the number of its members, and in its territorial extent, and it was thought best to divide it into three congregations. This has been done, and that too, to the general satisfaction of the members.  The three congregations heretofore forming the Elk Lick church, will hereafter be known as the Elk Lick, Meyersdale, and Summit congregations.  Perhaps the last name has not yet been fully adopted by the congregation to which it has been applied.  Brother C. G.; Lint, who has heretofore been the elder of the whole congregation, living in the Meyersdale congregation, will be the elder of this. Brother Jonathan Kelso has been ordained, and he is now the elder in the congregation that retains the name Elk Lick. Brother James Lichty has been ordained as elder in the Summit congregation.

It was decided by the three congregation to have their communion together yet this fall.  The meeting was very large, and very pleasant. The weather was delightful, and the order excellent. Having formerly lived in this congregation, and having many dear Christian friends here, we were glad that we could meet with then again on such an interesting occasion, and worship with them. We enjoyed our visit with the Somerset brethren., while we felt it good to be together in the public meeting for worship, we also had some pleasant seasons of social character in the families that we visited.
