A New Congregation.

I went from Virginia to Kentucky to meet with Bro. Ledbetter, from Hawkins County, Tennessee, to hold a week’s meeting.  after being there three days we had Bro. Joseph I. Sizedmore to assist us in the meeting.  We members of the Virginia petitioned the members of the Black Snake, Kentucky, for a separate congregation, making Cumberland mountain the line between our congregation and the Black Snake (our congregation being named White Shoals);  then to the top of Powell’s Mountain for the line between the White Shoals congregation and the Cedar Grove congregation, of Hawkins County, Tennessee.  The petition was granted.

After having a good meeting, three applied for baptism later on, and one that applied during Bro. James M. Neff’s meeting put on Christ in baptism.  Later on we had another applicant. Then we assembled at Bro. Jacob Jones’s house and elected Bro. Joseph I. Sizemore as moderator, and William S. Eldridge as writing clerk,  two were put to the ministry, brethren John Davis and David Still, and Bro. Jacob Jones in the deacon’s office and treasurer.  We elected Bro. Joseph I. Sizemore elder and Bro. Peter Clepper assistant elder.  Our membership is fourteen.  After meeting next day we departed to our respective homes.   William S. Eldridge.   Rose Hill, VA
